Novena for Catholic Education

(Archdiocese of Edmonton)

A novena is a traditional prayer that is prayed for nine consecutive days. Through a novena, we hope that some special spiritual blessings will be given by God through the intercession of the saint to whom the novena is addressed. St. John Bosco lived in 19th-century Italy, where he became known as a teacher who reached out to needy children through a combination of reason, religion and kindness. He believed that children must not only be loved, but know that they are loved. St. John Bosco is one of the patron saints of Catholic education, and also of apprentices and young people.

Novena in Honour of St. John Bosco

In need of special help, I appeal with confidence to you, Saint John Bosco, for I require not only spiritual graces, but also temporal ones.

I pray for your intercession particularly for Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Edmonton, that it may be strengthened through times of challenge, and that through the efforts of parents, trustees, administrators, teachers and students, it may be nurtured and built up for the greater glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

May you, who on earth had such great devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and to Mary Help of Christians, and who always had compassion for those who were suffering, obtain from Jesus and His Heavenly Mother the grace I now request, and also a sincere resignation to the Will of God.

(Recite the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be)

Let Us Create a Climate of Change prayer (D&P contest winner)
LET US CREATE A CLIMATE OF CHANGE

Lord, in the joy of your Creation,
The whole human family has received
this unique gift from you:
our planet Earth.

We sincerely thank you, Lord!

Lord, look on our EARTH and
help us to recognize that it is urgent that we act…
…for we are destroying our forests,
devastating our soil,
and polluting our seas.

When we do this,
we cause changes to our climate,
and create environmental turmoil
that increase poverty in the countries of the South.

We sincerely ask for forgiveness, Lord.

Yes, it is time to act…
to guide our planet
in its development
and in its peace.
